As resources and space become scarcer on this planet, competition is more likely to commence, I think, between peoples of different cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds. A kind of Balkanization of the world, as it were (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkanization). We need to simultaneously get our environmental houses in order (over the purely monetary interests of our business associates) while curbing the consumerism of our world (again, at the monetary expense of the business associates) and pulling together into a waking conscious sense of being one species, such that only those who are content with and advocate racial/ethnic/religious/linguistic/social and economic divisions and divisive behavior are left out. It's a question of selective genetic and memetic evolution, for the survival and well being of the individuals of this species as much as for the collective sense of it.
And it all starts with the brain....
The brain that prioritizes divisions and abstract concepts such as monetary wealth or relative power should be left out and left behind on this evolutionary journey through history. And this, I think, can be done in as few as a couple generations, if the altercations to the memetic structures of the brain are successful.
We can no longer accept these kinds of divisions and priorities to plague our world. And while there will still be echoes of it throughout time and space, we can make them be just that. Echoes.
From a period of time that was less enlightened and less able to survive in this constantly changing and shifting universe.
Think about it.
Cause you will be left behind in the dust of time if you don't.
As we all will, at one point in time, as this universe evolves and changes around us and within us.
